Compress Video

Make a video small enough to send, without uploading it anywhere.

  1. Pick a quality and a resolution
  2. Drop a video. It is encoded on your device
  3. Download the smaller file and see what you saved
0 bytes left your browserWhy is this limited?

Scaling down usually saves far more than quality does. A phone records at a size almost nobody watches it at, and 720p is plenty for anything that gets sent.

Encoding runs on your own processor, so a long video takes minutes. The page stays usable, and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it slower than the compressors that upload my file?
Because those send your video to a server farm and this runs on the processor in front of you. That is the trade: your file never leaves the device, and you wait for your own machine rather than someone else's.
Which setting should I use?
Balanced, and 720p, unless you know the file is going somewhere that needs more. That pair turns most phone recordings into a fraction of their size with nothing a viewer would notice on a phone or a laptop.
Why did my file barely shrink?
It was probably compressed already: a download from a streaming site or a message app has had most of the redundancy taken out. Lowering the resolution is what still helps on those.
What format do I get back?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays on essentially everything. Making a file sendable is the point, so the output is the format least likely to be refused at the other end.
