Frequently asked questions
- What does "beta" mean here? What converts well and what doesn't?
- It means we'd rather under-promise than break your document quietly. Paragraphs, headings, bold and italic text, and bullet or numbered lists convert well. Images, tables, columns, footnotes and custom fonts are not preserved yet: images and tables are skipped, and we show you a count of exactly what was left out. If your document is mostly text, you'll get a clean PDF. If it's a designed layout, this tool isn't there yet.
- Is my Word document uploaded to a server?
- No. The whole conversion, reading the .docx, laying out the text and building the PDF, runs inside your browser. Your document never leaves your device, and the conversion even works offline once the page has loaded.
- Which languages are supported?
- Latin-script documents (English, Spanish, French, German and similar) work best right now, because the beta uses the PDF standard's built-in fonts. Documents written mostly in other scripts, like Hebrew or Arabic, are declined with a clear message rather than converted into gibberish. More scripts are coming.
