M4A is what an iPhone Voice Memo, a QuickTime recording or a track bought from Apple Music is wrapped in, and it is exactly the file a car stereo, a Windows audio app or a transcription service tends to reject. This page rewrites the sound as a plain MP3 at 192 kbps. The decode and re-encode both run on your machine, through ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly.

Frequently asked questions

Is M4A the same thing as AAC?
Close. M4A is the container and AAC is almost always the codec inside it, which is why the extension is what everything argues about while the audio itself is fine.
Will my voice memo lose clarity?
Speech comes through essentially unchanged at 192 kbps, well above what a spoken word recording needs. Music re-encoded from AAC to MP3 gives up a little, as any second lossy pass does.
Can this convert songs from my Apple Music library?
Only the ones without copy protection. Your own recordings and older purchased tracks convert normally, while a DRM locked download from a streaming subscription cannot be decoded by any tool, including this one.
