- Why is this slower than converting to MP4?
- Two costs stack up: the MOV often holds HEVC that must be decoded frame by frame, and VP9 encoding is deliberately thorough. Use a desktop machine for anything longer than a couple of minutes.
- Will the result play on an iPhone?
- Current versions of Safari play VP9 in WebM, so a recent iPhone handles it. Older devices are the reason many sites still serve an MP4 alongside.
