- Is my PDF uploaded when I compress it?
- No. The whole pipeline, rendering pages, re-encoding them and rebuilding the PDF, runs inside your browser. Your document never leaves your device.
- Does it work on every kind of PDF?
- It shines on scanned documents, which often shrink by 50% or more. Text-based PDFs are a different story: compression turns each page into an image, so the text stops being selectable and the file may not get smaller at all. That's why this tool is built for scanned documents, and why we warn you when your PDF looks text-based instead of pretending it worked.
- What does the quality slider do?
- It sets the JPEG quality used when pages are re-encoded. The default of 75% keeps scans crisp at roughly 150 DPI; lower it for smaller files, raise it if you need finer detail.
